Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is a smart decision! Silk is a luxury like no other, with amazing benefits for your hair, skin, and overall wellness. A 100 percent silk pillowcase can flatten frizz, tame tangles, and reduce bedhead; minimize sleep wrinkles, and help your hair and skin retain essential moisture for true beauty sleep. Silk is also naturally temperature regulating, which will keep you comfortable year-round in all conditions.
It's easy to understand why switching to silk is a great move. But now comes the tricky part: understanding all the options available so you can pick your perfect pillowcase.
At Mulberry Park Silks, we've got you covered. Over the years, we've explained why silk is good for your skin and hair; what momme means and why it matters; and what to look out for when shopping for silk. Today we're going to put all that knowledge to use and go silk pillowcase shopping together on Amazon. Our goal today is to make a classic “apples-to-apples” comparison, evaluate pillowcases of similar size, color, and weight on variables such as quality, feel, price, packaging, and more; and demonstrate objectively why Mulberry Park Silks should be your top pick.
We'll start by comparing 100 percent mulberry silk pillowcases, queen-size (20” x 30”), at a 19 momme weight, a lighter weight weave that is popular on Amazon.

As you can see from this chart, several of these pillowcases are made with lower-quality silk. This definitely affects their feel and, likely, their scent (we suspect inferior silk may be more likely to pick up and retain smell from the plastic packaging). JOCOKU and JogJue are both made with second-class quality silk, which accounts for their lower pricing. These, along with Alaska Bear (5A quality) should be eliminated from consideration unless you are on an absolute strict budget. In that case, however, bear in mind that both JOCOKU and JogJue are sold in sets of two, so you will be spending more overall, and Alaska Bear is the same price as higher quality options.
That leaves us with three pillowcases made from 6A silk, which is the highest quality on the market: Lily Silk, Mulberry Park Silks, and the SLPBABY silk pillowcase. All three are approximately the same cost, with Mulberry Park Silks being slightly more affordable. To narrow these options:
- All three pillowcases are soft, with SLPBABY and Mulberry Park Silks also feeling super silky. Lily Silk is not quite as silky as the other two; rather, it feels more soft than silky to the touch.
- SLPBABY is not Oeko-Tex certified to be free of toxins and harmful chemicals. We believe this is very important, as Oeko-Tex is an industry-standard that ensures safety and healthfulness in the textile industry. For this reason, we would recommend eliminating SLPBABY from consideration.
- Lily Silk and Mulberry Park Silks both offer six color choices.
- While all pillowcases are manufactured in China, Mulberry Park Silks is the only pillowcase sold by a U.S.-based company, proudly headquartered in Branford, Connecticut.
- Mulberry Park Silks has a generous 7+-inch envelope closure that folds over, rather than a zipper. Even the standard hidden zipper can dig into you as you sleep.
Our recommendation: Mulberry Park Silks, which wins on quality, price, and design, followed by Lily Silk as a second option.

When it comes to evaluating higher momme pillowcases, our assessment is that you get what you pay for. For comparison purposes, we will consider 21 and 22 momme options together.
Our reviews found two areas where these best-selling Amazon pillowcases differ: feel and price. Among the most affordable options -- J Jimoo, Ravmix, and Yani Best -- we found that J Jimoo presented with an almost gritty feel. This may be due to the manufacturer using shorter silk fibers. Ravmix felt only moderately smooth to the touch; our fingers seemed to drag a bit while moving across the fabric. Yani Best is the winner in terms of feel but is made from inferior quality silk grade 5A. As such, all of these budget-priced pillowcases really should be eliminated from consideration. Our opinion is that, for the same money, you would be better off purchasing a higher-quality 19 momme pillowcase instead (see above chart).
That brings us to our two higher-priced options: Zimasilk and Mulberry Park Silks. While the Zimasilk mulberry silk pillowcase feels wonderful, the manufacturer does not disclose the actual quality of the silk. That leaves the consumer playing a guessing game. In comparison, Mulberry Park Silks is made from grade 6A silk, the highest quality in the market.
Other points to consider:
- Mulberry Park Silks 22 momme pillowcases are the only brand on this list sold by a U.S.-based company, headquartered in Branford, CT.
- Mulberry Park Silks 22 momme pillowcases are quite competitively priced among brands that guarantee similar quality silk and workmanship; in fact, they are routinely $35 to $45 less than competing brands like Slip and Blissy that are of similar quality and workmanship.
- Mulberry Park Silks pillowcases feature a comfortable envelope closure, with 8 inches of material that folds over the pillow, rather than a zipper which can potentially poke and prod.
Our choice: Mulberry Park Silks 22 momme for guaranteed quality, feel, and workmanship. The attractive gift packaging is a bonus.
Takeaways from our Amazon Shopping Excursion
A few takeaways from today's shopping excursion:
- The quality of the silk you buy matters. Insist on grade 6A silk and never settle for less.
- For the same money, you are better off purchasing a 19 momme silk pillowcase of better quality (grade 6A) silk than a low- or unknown quality silk pillowcase that is 21 or 22 momme.
- When it comes to reputable brands, you will notice a large jump in price between entry-level, 19 momme silk pillowcases, and 22 momme silk pillowcases.
- We recommend looking for U.S.-based parent companies; these will be easier to engage with when it comes to customer service and product support.
- As always, our team at Mulberry Park Silks is here to offer answers and advice. We love talking about all things silk related, including how sleeping on a pure silk pillowcase and silk sheets is wonderful for your overall health. Along with being great for taming frizzy hair and bed head, silk bedding prevents hair breakage and sleep crease development. Real silk is also naturally hypoallergenic, resistant to dust mites, and non-irritating to sensitive skin.
We wish you happy and smart shopping, and warmly welcome you to the Mulberry Park Silks family!
