Silk Pillowcases: An Investment in Beauty Sleep
You've decided to buy a silk pillowcase. Great call! Swapping your cotton pillowcase for silk is a savvy move that can make a big difference in how you look and feel. Silk is an absolute legend in luxury bedding, but it's so much more. Silk delivers serious beauty and wellness benefits, including helping your hair and skin retain moisture; preventing tangles, bedhead, frizzy hair, and breakage; and minimizing sleep wrinkles on delicate facial skin. Pure mulberry silk fabric is also hypoallergenic, resistant to mold and dust mites, non-irritating to sensitive skin, and temperature regulating for better sleep. Talk about a great night of beauty sleep!
The only tricky part is wading through all the options on the market to find the best silk pillowcase to suit your needs, style, and budget. As we always say here at Mulberry Park Silks, fine silk bedding is an investment, but you need not overpay to get great value. That's why we're showing you what to look for in a silk pillowcase Mulberry Park Silks: including quality, craftsmanship, and customer service - and comparing our 22 momme Standard size silk pillowcase with the equivalent Blissy pillowcase style; both pillowcases measure 20" x 26".
Let's dig into details of what to look for in silk and explore how Blissy and Mulberry Park Silks pillowcases compare.
Quality: Never Compromise on Material
When you're shopping for silk pillowcases, always look for a pillowcase made of 100 percent pure mulberry silk; mulberry silk fiber is known to be the softest, longest, strongest, and most uniform in color of all silk. Also make sure that the silk used is graded 6A, which is the very best on the market. Never settle for inferior quality silk; silk blends; or an artificial satin pillowcase, which is not silk at all but a polyester blend made from petroleum. ONLY a pure silk pillowcase will deliver the beauty and wellness benefits you deserve. Real silk will be labeled and have the momme weight listed (see next paragraph). The preferred weave for a silk pillowcase is charmeuse, which has a soft, lustrous finish on one side (for minimal friction) and a matte finish on the reverse. Silk charmeuse fabric is washable by machine or hand (we recommend a mesh laundry bag for washing silk).

Silk Weight: Momme Matters
Silk comes in various weights, measured in a term called momme. The higher the momme weight of silk, the more silk is used in the pillowcase. Higher momme weaves are denser and are made with thicker silk fibers as well. Momme weight will be clearly labeled on any genuine silk pillowcase from a reputable manufacturer. While we are comparing only 22 momme pillowcases in this blog, it is important to know that Mulberry Park Silks offers pillowcases in a range of momme weights, including a lighter 19 momme that is more affordable and ideal for anyone who is new to silk and wants to try it; our signature 22 momme that is our most popular; and an indulgent 30 momme that is our heaviest weight. Blissy silk pillowcases come in 22 momme weight only.

Safety: Taking an Additional Step for Health
Pure silk is naturally breathable, hypoallergenic, and non-irritating, which is an absolute win. Here at Mulberry Park Silks, all of our products are certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® to ensure safety. This rigorous, independent testing protocol examines every component of the pillowcase through every aspect of production to guarantee it is safe from harmful toxins and chemicals. Blissy pillowcases have the same certification.

Craftsmanship: Details Make the Difference
Mulberry Park Silks Queen pillowcases feature a French seam all the way around for a tailored, fray-resistant finish that is perfect for delicate silk. It features your choice of a generous envelope closure (more than 7" deep) to hold the pillow securely in place or a high-quality hidden zipper with a clean, finished edge. The hidden zipper is made with an overlock finish on the zipper end that protects the zipper from unzipping it past the zipper end.
Blissy pillowcases are made with an overlock stitch all around that is a "quicker finish" but that can feel bulkier on fine silk. They have a hidden zipper closure made with a high-quality zipper that is sewn with an unfinished edge. The loose end of the zipper (made without an overlock seam) is prone to come undone. The zipper seam and tab can be felt through the fabric and can poke and prod. Blissy adds an embroidered monogram to their silk pillowcase in matching color thread that is not to everyone's taste.
- Mulberry Park Silks: French seam all the way around; choice of envelope or hidden zipper closure; high-quality zipper with overlock finish to hold it in place.
- Blissy: Overlock stitch seam all the way around; a hidden zipper that is made with no overlock seam prone to coming undone.

Price: Focus on Value
The price of a silk pillowcase should be based on the cost of silk at any given time. This will vary, but a reputable silk company will be transparent about this (see "company reputation" below). The sticker price of Blissy's 22 momme Standard pillowcase is $89.95. The sticker price of the Mulberry Park Silks 22 momme Standard pillowcase is $68.25. At the time of this writing, both pillowcases are discounted with Blissy being $67.46 and Mulberry Park Silks being $52.20. Blissy is also running a promotion that offers a fourth pillowcase free if you purchase three, which will reduce the cost to around $50 each; this is $2 less than Mulberry Park Silks but you will have to purchase FOUR pillowcases! You will also find a pop-up wheel on the Blissy site, which offers some vague discounts or promotions. You will not find these types of "huckster" offers at Mulberry Park Silks. We care too much about our reputation as the best value in silk to offer confusing and misleading pricing.

Company Reputation: Where You Buy Your Silk Matters
We say this all the time: it matters where you purchase your silk. Mulberry Park Silks was created in 2014 as a sister company to luxury linen retailer, Fine Linen and Bath, whose founder was seeking out fine silk bedding to minimize the effects of hot flashes. In the past decade, Mulberry Park Silks has grown into a thriving silk bedding and accessory company with a carefully curated set of pure silk offerings: silk pillowcases; the very best silk sheets and duvet covers; silk accessories including a sleep mask, scrunchies, glam bands, scarves, and bonnets; and silk robes. We are proud and aboveboard regarding our history. Our headquarters, warehouse, and customer service division are headquartered in Branford, Connecticut. You can call our offices and speak to a member of our design team (or even to our owner, Tom Ceconi, who is carrying on his family's legacy of selling home textiles). We are transparent about the provenance, pricing, and care of our luxurious silk products and proud of our excellent reputation.
Blissy Silk was founded in 2019 and is headquartered in Burbank, California. They are not a "silk" company per se, but rather, a silk pillowcase company that has expanded its offerings to include hair accessories (scrunchies, bands, bonnets); sleep masks; and robes. The brand history they showcase is vague and does not speak to luxury linen expertise. They sell many colors, designs, and branded varieties of silk pillowcases, but do NOT offer sheets or other fine silk bedding. Unlike Mulberry Park Silks-which was founded by a luxury linen retailer - Blissy was founded by digital commerce experts to fill an underserved market segment. To us, this sounds rather opportunistic and commoditizes silk (something we would never do).

Our customer service team works at our Branford, CT headquarters and we are here to help.
Blissy customer service operates on West Coast business hours and appears to be headquartered in California. We were told about a recent call to Blissy customer service, where the representative on the call could not answer what the weight of their silk pillowcases was. Moreover, Blissy has generated numerous complaints to the Better Business Bureau. A quick scan of those complaints shows that customers have problems with both the quality of the products and the responsiveness of the Blissy customer service team.
